"Iacta Alea Est"
This phrase (meaning The Die Is Cast) is believed to be said by Julius Caesar as he led his army across the Rubicon on January 10, 49 BC. With this action, he defied the Senate and declared a civil war, which lasted 4 years, at the end of which, Caesar became the most powerful man in the Roman Republic.
Since then, the phrase has been widely used to indicate that events have passed a point of no return.
