Introduction

Wake Forest University provides students with opportunities to pursue an array of academic interests and passions in the best tradition of a small liberal arts college with the resources of a national research university. Since 1834, Wake Forest has built on its tradition of academic excellence and service to humanity. The university embraces the teacher-scholar ideal, prizing personal interaction between students and faculty. Exceptional teaching, fundamental research and discovery, and the engagement of faculty and students in the classroom and the laboratory are paramount. Wake Forest has made personal and career development a mission-critical component of the college experience. Its innovative Office of Personal and Career Development provides comprehensive support from an exploration of values, interests and talents to the search for internships and jobs. Located in Winston-Salem, the 340-acre campus is bordered by Reynolda Gardens, with 150 acres of walking trails and formal gardens. Most of Wake Forest's more than 30 buildings are constructed of Old Virginia brick in a modified Georgian style and surrounded by majestic magnolia trees. The Reynolda Campus is home to the College of Arts and Sciences and several graduate and professional schools. The School of Medicine is located four miles away.
